Let’s Hate and the expansion of Blue

I was going to do a series of videos for a “Let’s Hate”, where I take a look at problematic games and point out every problem in it.  Ar Tonelico was the first on the chopping block after The Border House article about the III game and that one person forgot all the misogyny until it was pointed out again. I was actually watching a Let’s Play on the game, where I got some scenes from however the let’s player went on hiatus. I’ll probably put Ar Tonelico II on the block afterwards followed by either Mana-Khemia or another title.

I have decided also to expand into anime, as many times there are games based on anime and anime based on games, so I’m going to do some anime reviews for anime that truly are good or truly fail.

Also, I’m going to tweak the theme by A LOT, I’m getting tired of broken CSS that seemed to work in  theory under Dreamweaver. WordPress is.. different.

“Females” posting on The Border House!

The Border House is a blog that I follow that has a mission of inclusiveness of various types of people. However I’ve come across a LOT of non-inclusive language.  This being that the comments are mostly un-moderated. Unlike Shakesville, TBH doesn’t have “language policing”. I hate to call it that, but that’s the closest term I can find.

Otaku-ism: How you’re offending me and others!

I’m an avid fan of anime and manga and have been for quite some time. However delving into it I’ve noticed some problems cropping up from both the western and eastern side.

First the Western side, since this is closer to home.

Things I’ve noticed is the tolerability of people to put up with out there acts of racism, sexism, misogyny and violence in both anime/manga and laugh at it for being silly. It bothers me as these people consume it and put money back towards bringing out more books/anime like it and I get called out for being too “sensitive” about it. While I’m not going to critique people for making a choice, I do question if they are really recognizing what they are doing. It kinda goes back to my post about Carpe Fulgur games dismissing me. Some of these people are the ones that want some otome (maiden, “girl”) games yet they go out and buy all this stuff that basically tells these companies that what they are doing is par for the course.

OpenRPG: Internet Tabletop!

I was recently introduced to a program called OpenRPG. Link is right there.

What it does, is simulate a table with a grid that you can play tabletop RPGs with. You have a pen you can use to draw the rooms, a chat area where the players and GM can talk, you can import images from websites to have for miniatures etc. It seems like a solid tool for those people that are can’t get out to get to a TT session or those that don’t want to, if the local gamers are all trolls, or even if there is no real group out there. They can log-on and talk and get their gaming that way. With SKype/Ventrilo/etc. and such they can also voicechat for a more authentic experience.

There are two flavors of OpenRPG:
Vanilla
Traipse

Basically they are as different as Fedora and Ubuntu. Both Linux builds. Basically the core is there however there may be differences in the way that it is GUI’d or the functionality. The Vanilla flavor has an installer that will install everything for you while the Traipse version wants you to have Python and wxPython pre-installed. (Honestly I don’t like installers that have dependencies.)

Dungeon and… Dungeons

I haven’t updated this much lately. Every time I want update with all my Let’s Plays… I always upload more LPs and the cycle continues. Lest to say I’ve uploaded quite a lot.

I’ve also been working on getting my novel finished. The one that I wrote at NaNoWriMo. I’m almost done, just need to add the maps and it’ll be ready for a re-proof and then hopefully onto sell :3
It should be pretty obvious what it’s about. It’s about people, going into a dungeon… and discovering things. That’s why this place is the “Dungeon of Blue” and that I have a Sekaijuu no MeiQ III party widget off to the right.
It’s really a combination of SnM, Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land, Class of Heroes and a drop of Yu-Gi-Oh. Given the tone of this blog, you can bet too that the novel isn’t laden with sighing women wanting to romance the local hero either. Does it have romance? I think so… though you have to hack past the practical side of things, and it does seem to be a bit one sided, but not in the bad way. :3
I will say this much over all, it is very much an “otome novel” meaning that the party isn’t balanced in the way most people would like. However, considering it’s an “otome novel”, I didn’t unbalance it to give the men a place to show off, more like a place to show off the men ;3
