Let’s Hate and the expansion of Blue

I was going to do a series of videos for a “Let’s Hate”, where I take a look at problematic games and point out every problem in it.  Ar Tonelico was the first on the chopping block after The Border House article about the III game and that one person forgot all the misogyny until it was pointed out again. I was actually watching a Let’s Play on the game, where I got some scenes from however the let’s player went on hiatus. I’ll probably put Ar Tonelico II on the block afterwards followed by either Mana-Khemia or another title.

I have decided also to expand into anime, as many times there are games based on anime and anime based on games, so I’m going to do some anime reviews for anime that truly are good or truly fail.

Also, I’m going to tweak the theme by A LOT, I’m getting tired of broken CSS that seemed to work in  theory under Dreamweaver. WordPress is.. different.

“Females” posting on The Border House!

The Border House is a blog that I follow that has a mission of inclusiveness of various types of people. However I’ve come across a LOT of non-inclusive language.  This being that the comments are mostly un-moderated. Unlike Shakesville, TBH doesn’t have “language policing”. I hate to call it that, but that’s the closest term I can find.

Otaku-ism: How you’re offending me and others!

I’m an avid fan of anime and manga and have been for quite some time. However delving into it I’ve noticed some problems cropping up from both the western and eastern side.

First the Western side, since this is closer to home.

Things I’ve noticed is the tolerability of people to put up with out there acts of racism, sexism, misogyny and violence in both anime/manga and laugh at it for being silly. It bothers me as these people consume it and put money back towards bringing out more books/anime like it and I get called out for being too “sensitive” about it. While I’m not going to critique people for making a choice, I do question if they are really recognizing what they are doing. It kinda goes back to my post about Carpe Fulgur games dismissing me. Some of these people are the ones that want some otome (maiden, “girl”) games yet they go out and buy all this stuff that basically tells these companies that what they are doing is par for the course.

What needs to be said about Ar Tonelico

The reason I started this blog in the first place was based on this sexist harem game. It actually started due to a de-railing of a topic on the My Neo Romance boards asking for otome RPG games like Ar Tonelico, but with the reversed harem. Lest to say many fans on the board rabidly told me that the characters aren’t like this or that and the game is wonderful and women have all the power and the whole tripe of people who are not enlightened about sexism in general nor Feminism 101.

Then I found this article:
Sexism in Ar Tonelico
It sums up nicely what I was trying to say to those dense people in that forum. However I wish to expand on that summary.

Ar Tonelico as a game is a problem.

Game Covers Women Want to See Meme

Yudhishthira’s Dice asks:

Ladies, what RPG covers (or interiors) have you seen that involve a woman in the art that make you say, “I want to play that” or, just as good “I want to play her.” Or that make you feel like it is a game you could like, or be included in by a group of guys you’d never met and whose maturity you didn’t necessarily know?

Rules of the meme, by tekanji:

  1. Copy the text of the original challenge from Yudhishthira’s Dice and give a proper link attribution.
  2. Copy these rules exactly (including any links).
  3. Find images of game covers (interiors are okay, too) that make you want to play the game. Any kind of game — video game, card game, tabletop RPG, etc — is fine. Post them and include a short (or long) explanation on why the image makes/made you want to play the game.
  4. The original challenge is about finding out what women think about how game art is marketed and therefore it is targeted at women. I’d like to keep it that way, please.
  5. You can tag as many or as few people as you want. You do not need to be tagged to participate in the meme.
  6. When you make your post, please post the link on this thread so we can all see what others have said.
